The bread we break

Dear brothers and sisters,

A fast that costs nothing is a diet. In this diocese there are families who ate once yesterday and will eat once today, and they did not choose it.

So I ask that whatever you set aside this Lent, you weigh and give away, through your parish or through Caritas. Not the money you would have spent — the food itself, or its price to the shilling.

Your parish knows which families. It has known for years.
