Dear brothers and sisters,

Every year I am told the same thing by priests in every deanery: the queue for confession is shorter than it was, and the people in it are the same people.

I do not think this is because we have less to confess. I think it is because we have persuaded ourselves that the priest will remember. He will not, and he may not. What he carries out of that room he carries under a seal that has cost priests their lives.

Come this Lent. Come to a parish that is not your own if that is easier. The times are published on every parish's site.
